PronounsShe/Her

I have a deep belief that relationships form the foundation of life and healing; I like to bring a relational approach to counseling that emphasizes the power of human connection. Whether it is the relationship we have with ourselves, loved ones, or the broader community, I believe it shapes a big portion of who we are, how we behave, and what our psychological wellbeing looks like. Therefore, I like to empower clients to explore the dynamics in their lives, cultivate self-awareness, and build more meaningful, supportive interactions.

I mainly use Narrative therapy as my main theoretical modality. It is a modality that encourages curiosity, compassion, optimism, and a power-sharing dialogue between the therapist and the client. The theory believes that everyone has multiple stories about their life, and that we get to choose which one we believe to be our reality.

“The stories we tell ourselves are not just words, but they shape the lives we live and the futures we imagine.”

— David Epston

With that it is believed that stories have the power to construct and reconstruct our identities. At times, narratives can be placed on individuals through family, culture, or society; narrative therapy aims to give clients back their agency to choose their narrative.

I also have an appreciation for focusing on the bigger picture that shaped you as a unique individual. Learning about your past and current environments, identity, culture, and societal context can aid in understanding yourself and your behavioural patterns.

I am currently undergoing my Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology at Adler University in Vancouver.

I have covered a broad range of topics thus far, including basic and advanced counselling skills, trauma therapy, ethics in counselling, and multicultural counselling. Between September and December, my focus is going to be on learning couples and family therapy.

I have acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia (UBC), which allows me to have a good basis for understanding somatic and body-based approaches to therapy.

I identify as a Cisgender Egyptian Woman. I was born and raised in Egypt and moved to Vancouver solo when I was 18 years old. Hence, I have personal experience in the process of acculturation and discovering oneself amidst the cultural/societal beliefs and standards.

I am an individual who has spent an extensive amount of time trying to answer the question ‘What is the meaning of life’. I have come to realize that there is no universal answer to this question, and that each individual needs to explore their answer. Through this journey of understanding myself holistically, I have come to develop an appreciation for having a sense of purpose, which I believe can greatly contribute to one’s mental wellbeing.

Recently, I have been interested in exploring the psychological principles of Islam. Similar to how meditation was introduced to the field of psychology by studying Buddhism, I believe that studying the psychology of Islam can add to and ameliorate the existing psychological principles we live by.

Apart from psychology, I have a deep love for basketball and for sports in general. My go to place for revival is the beach (especially if it is the Mediterranean). I find so much joy in dancing and reading. Last but certainly not least, I am a foodie so you will find me with friends exploring different restaurants all over Metro Vancouver.
