When I think about my approach to change, I consider balance. We often feel pressured to be more disciplined, but when we fall into shame or guilt, our struggles can intensify, making change even harder. Cultivating self-compassion allows us to understand ourselves more deeply. From this place of acceptance, we can recognize what we truly need to change the things that no longer serve us.

Many people experience symptoms like racing thoughts, excessive worry, and trouble concentrating. These challenges can lead to frustration and make daily tasks feel daunting. Processing these feelings with someone who understands can be a vital first step toward finding balance and well-being.

Developing skills to help you move out of “fight or flight” (or freeze) mode and into a place of safety is essential. This compassionate approach enables us to effectively address your challenges. Using evidence-based tools from various therapeutic modalities—including mindfulness, behavioral, and cognitive strategies—we’ll work together to cultivate a sense of grounding. Mindfulness enhances your awareness of thoughts and feelings without becoming overwhelmed, allowing us to explore any limiting beliefs that may keep you feeling stuck.

I have a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

My master’s thesis looked at Attitudes Towards Evidence-Based Practice in Canadian Therapists. I presented my findings at the 77th annual meeting of the Canadian Psychological Association, and the 51st annual meeting of the Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapy.

I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from SFU. My honours research focused on the role of emotion regulation in a population of individuals who self-harm, with or without eating disorder symptoms.

During my time working in research, I contributed to other studies about topics such as procrastination, avoidance, compulsive vs. impulsive behaviours, and self-harm.

I grew up in Kamloops BC in the 1980s, I was raised by my mother, who was a British immigrant. On one hand, our community was wholesome and diverse, with working-class families from all over the world. The message in school was that Canada was a friendly “cultural mosaic”.It was jarring when years later, the native museum we would visit on field trips, ended up becoming world famous for uncovering the true history of residential schools. Realizing in hindsight, that some of my friends who seemed to ‘slip through the cracks’ by not being able to fit into the system, were generationally set up to fail on many more levels than I could appreciate.

This is not to say that navigating something like the educational system came easily to me from the start. I would end up becoming the first person in my family to obtain higher education. Growing up, I was more interested in skateboarding and playing music with my friends. I also realize now I dealt with a lot of stress, ADHD, and anxiety. I ended up dropping out of high school, going on tour with a band, and eventually fell into working. I had time to kill at my job and read a lot of self-help books. The principles of psychology snuck through. I was able to challenge my limiting beliefs and realized I could get through school if it meant having a career I loved.

The journey through education challenged me to further question my own beliefs about the world and myself, and gave me an appreciation for knowledge and experimentation. For example, learning about mindfulness and attachment during my time in a Dialectical Behavioural Therapy lab was lifechanging. Both in terms of the effects of meditation, as well as a safer bridge back to spirituality than I’d grown up with.

I have been out of school for several years now, and I do love being a therapist. Outside of work, I enjoy music, art, snowboarding, yoga, and just being outside in nature. I am a mom of 2, and parenting has so far been a rich and humbling experience. I am enjoying the current chapter of life I’m in, and feel lucky to have the chance to continue to learn and grow.
