“It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative… and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”

- D.W. Winnicott

I believe that healing largely involves feeling the fullness of experiences, so to find the words to communicate them to another, and hopefully make these previously murky episodes clearer. Here, a person’s social relationships, their depth and breadth, are vital for healing - sometimes the problems life presents us are too much for one alone, and there then comes the often difficult acceptance of allowing another person to help you.

Therefore, for meaningful growth, developing the capacity for vulnerability with others is central to my work as a psychotherapist. My approach is largely established from object relations psychoanalysis, which prioritizes how one’s relationships in their early years influence their social interactions into the later years. It is my belief that, if someone is unhappy in the way they are relating to themselves or others, psychotherapies which give space to that person’s emotional life are the most effective for meaningful and enduring change. It is with this frame that I work with my clients.

I completed my Master of Science in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. I went for my education in Europe specifically, as I wanted to learn from psychotherapists who were experts in feeling, understanding, and working with emotion therapeutically. Safe to say, I was quite happy with my decision.

My specialization was in neurological impairment, specifically frontal brain damage related to issues in emotional regulation and memory. Through my work, I learned not only how to work with these people, but also neurologically healthy people who oftentimes feel worried throughout their day or cannot make sense of their feelings. Therefore, as I work towards certification as a Clinical Counsellor, I give central importance to feelings or ideas which at first may seem odd, and gradually we can hope to make sense of them together.

I was born in Surrey, BC, and from a young age I have always gained a lot of enjoyment from playing sports. Mostly between softball and ball hockey, I was always looking for more opportunities to be active and, with the recent addition of badminton, I still find the time to play these games routinely.

Though other than playing, I often umpire high-level fastpitch, both men’s and women’s, and have been refereeing for over a decade. It’s thrilling as an umpire to perform alongside these skilled athletes, and to constantly give my best to call a fair game. Additionally, I have worked as a financial advisor, and it has been fulfilling to help people learn the basics about the financial system in Canada.

Newer interests for me now include reading about depth psychology, appreciating stand-up comedy and improv, and practicing music from time to time. Also, after living in Ireland for a few years, I’ve really realized my love for the BC wilderness, and hope to have more experiences hiking and tenting in the outdoors.
